Teach children about bullying before they become bullies

Teach before they bully

The Adventures of Bully & Boo I, evolved from discussions with children. We realised that a lot is done to teach the victims of bullying how to cope with it, or even ignore it, but little is done to address the bully behaviour itself.

So the children came up with everyday scenarios of bullying and we created interactive comic strips from their stories. The goal is three-fold:

  1. Firstly, to teach children about bullying before they become bullies.
  2. Secondly, to create awareness among children from a young age, of things they might be doing every day, which actually constitute bullying.
  3. Thirdly, to empower children to recognise or identify bullying and take a stand against it.

The interactive modules are designed with a dual-purpose.

  1. It can be used as a teacher’s aid, with very young children who are still learning to read and write. The module can be displayed on a big screen or interactive whiteboard and navigated by the teacher. Ample opportunities are built in for discussion around the issues and interaction from the learners.
  2. Alternatively, it can be worked through on an individual basis by children who are computer literate.

This is a 1 year project with a new release every term, bringing it to a total of 4 interactive modules, before the next International Anti-Bullying week in November this year. Our vision is to reach as many children as possible and what better way to do that, than through each and every school?

The module is available online, in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa. For a mere R 495.00 per module, schools can purchase 3 months of unlimited views per module.

The Adventures of Bully & Boo II will be released in mid-April, in all three languages above. Watch a demo at http://e2zed.co.za/youth/
